Crawford & Company UK has invested further in its agricultural and rural claims business with the appointment of Mike Clementson to head of Agriculture..

Clementson joins the company as Crawford Agriculture experiences a new phase of growth—reflecting the increased risk and diversification of the rural economy in the UK.

He is former business development director at Agrical, presiding over a considerable expansion during the previous seven years. During that time, he led the firm’s support for clients, particularly in the aftermath of Storms Desmond, Eva and Frank.

Clementson’s considerable client experience includes large corporates and high net-worth property owners. He also has an expansive network of contacts across the UK insurance sector.

“We’re delighted to have Mike on board,” said Clive Nicholls, Crawford’s chief executive officer, UK & Ireland. “He knows better than most that the rural economy is fantastically diverse, and Crawford Agriculture has had to respond or pre-empt this dynamic with its own new skills and products.”

Clementson added, “Farmers are producing high-tech crops and biofuels, investing in tourism infrastructure and retail, and sending driverless vehicles onto their land. These measures have required additional cover and claims support, notwithstanding the fact that sums insured have been steadily rising as technology pervades the industry. I am thrilled to join Crawford Agriculture, which takes this sector as seriously as I do. There is growth potential from both a commercial and a rural high net-worth perspective. I look forward to facilitating the business and enhance its market-leading position.”
